Since it looks like I will have to replace my transmission. Has anyone heard of or dealt with Performance Automotive and Transmission Center in Bessier City Louisana. If so any feedback would be welcome thanks Randy
No I havent sorry, but have been through 4 of those 700R4 transmisssions. They were All GM rebuilds supplied to the dealer. I finally paid bigger bucks, once it was outta warranty, to Levelten.com in NJ to get a better trans with better parts check it out. Then ask your trans shop what kinda parts they are puttin in yours. Are they replacing or reusing critical parts. Do they know about the upgrades to be performed based on GM service bulletins. Finally see how the warranty is. GM warranties a year, Jasper warranties for like 3 years. Ask what is covered in your waranty.
i haven't ever heard of them before, but i do live only about 30 miles from bossier, and if there is anything i could do to help you obtain info on or about them just let me know.
Thanks for the replies. I would still like to know how one (trans) should be set up for a car with 3.54 gears and a topend package done on the stock motor Thanks Randy
I've got the Raptor 700R4 built by Turbo Don over at Bossier,La. in my 91' Vette.
It's a good solid high performance unit.
I have the 2600RPM stall converter with it.
The stall converter lets my old stock L98 get up in the torque curve better than the stock unit.
It is a little harder shifting than the stock transmission but Don can adjust it to shift however you want it too.
He is also very helpful over the phone.
ONE TIP: Get the COMPLETE transmission W-I-T-H T-A-I-L S-H-A-F-T ! !
That way you can rebuild your old transmission and have it complete.
You "may" have to swap out the speedo gears to match your diff.
if youre goin top end with the car, you should definitely get a beefed up version of the 700R4 or another tough tranny. Preferably a new one with a long warranty
I too think you should talk to Patt Barrett at Level 10 about your needs and get their catalogue. He is quite knowledgable and the catalogue will show you what goes into a performance tranny. Then you can talk intelligently to that local shop and see if they realy know their stuff.
I've had a Level 10 PTS3 700R/4 along with their 2,400-2,800rpm lockup TC in my IROC for 4 years now and it's held up fine. It still chirps the tires nicely on the 1-2 shift (my stock Vette tranny won't any more, even with more torque into it).
