Am replacing my maf sensor in my 88. Is it necessary to replace the power and burnoff relay as Ecklers suggests? I don't even know where this relay is. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advaance.

I am no expert, but seems to me if the relays are fine, why replace them? Appears to be an attempt by Ecklers to sell something else.

Relays are located just left of battery I believe on fire wall. If your burn off relay is bad it could be why your MAF went south it's designed to super heat the wire inside so it stays clean. The relays are about $14.00 each if I remember right.

Replace the relays. I have had MAF codes twice in the last 100000 miles. Both times, I replaced the relays. Never the MAF sensor itself.

... replace the one that is bad and keep the other as a spare until you need it..who knows, one day you will be "out" and need it..."if it ain't brok, don't fix it"...

When I had problems what I read said ditch both relays at once. It worked. Unless you are 100% sure the MAF is bad try the relays 1st. They fix most problems with MAF related codes.
New relays with a MAF would make sense.

I agree to only replace parts that are diagnosed as faulty.

The MAF relays are located on the firewall just above the battery:
power - LH side
burn off - RH side

If you need a MAF try a general bone yard for a used MAF from a 3rd gen F-body car. My '88 Vette has been running the MAF from my old '86 IROC-Z for over 4yrs and the air flow numbers look exactly as they did with the OEM Vette MAF...
