My ZF-6 has a noise in first gear. I also heard that the schencro's don't like 6500-7000 shifts. Who should I talk to. I live 35 miles fro Chicago in NW Indiana

You have a 4th gen F-body with a ZF6? If so, you are the only one that I have ever seen do this swap in a 4th gen.
The C4 tech section would be a better place to ask this question since the C5s have T56s in them. Only '89-'96 Corvettes got the ZF6. If the 6-speed in your WS6 is original, then it is a T56. Totally different transmission.

Re: ZF-6 Service ?? (SteveElliott)
There are two ZF 6-speed models installed in the Corvette. The earlier year models had a straighter cut 1st gear which whined a lot more. The later ones were cut with more angle and are much quieter. I am not sure how you tell which one you have or what year they switched over.

Re: ZF-6 Service ?? (SteveElliott)
If that is the orginal ZF from the 95, why not try a flush of oil? It quited mine down nicely. The oil is GM 1052931. You will need 2.1L. Rick on this board has suggested that a change with another change shortly thereafter results in a nice improvement. Worth a try, these things are kind of spendy to fix.
It's actually a GM "exchange" from a 96 that I traded with before the 96 was turned in at the end of it's lease. I believe the trans has about 10k miles on it and I've changed the fluid 4 times over the past two years, and have only used the GM fluid. Thanks for your response

Sorry to hear, well at least the parts are available now. Don't know were to send you for a ZF syncro replacement, but if it were me I'd be looking for somebody who is familar with the ZF trans. About the only ZF link I have left after my hard drive crash is http://www.zfdoc.com
Good Luck and let us know how it works out for you.
Try replacing the fluid with RedLine synthetic brand. They are famous for quieting transmissions plus it adds extra protection.
Redline does not have the proper GL rating for this transmission...(Look in the tech tips section) under c4/ZF6 speed...You can mess up the trany with the wrong fluid...
I just had mine rebuilt by ZR51 Performance, and the total was a little over $3500. Fortuneately this was covered by my aftermarket extended warranty. They ended up replacing all the syncros, 2nd, 3rd, and reverse.
The symptoms were that it would not go into 3rd until about 20 tries :cry , noisey first below 2000 RPM, and it would sometimes not engage reverse.
I will be taking the ZF out of my Z28 next month. It is in perfect condition. I am onlly replacing it with a T56 due to more ideal shifter placement for the Camaro console.
I does not wine. It does have the ZF chatter in neutal with the clutch out, but I have a single mass flywheel too. They all have this chatter. It is a '95-'96 model, as it has no reverse lock-out ring.
I am asking $2500 for it. It is still in the car right now. If you wanna make a trip to LA, you can drive it before you buy it. Who else can offer that. Again, the transmission is perfect.
