Default Finally a solution for inexpensive drag wheels

After a ton of research and wanting to keep the stock braking system on my C4, a local company Greg Weld Wheels has a solution for Corvette owners needing Drag Wheels.

http://www.gregweld.com/wheels_racelite.html

These are the 93 Series Lite wheels.

17X4.5 Front
17X9.5 Rear

26X4.5X17 Front from M&H
26X11.50X17 Rear ET Streets

Offsets are spot on, lots of clearance for the brakes. My car has the HD brake package, and as you can see, no issues at all.

The only downfall is the only front runner available is the M&H, which I have ordered and is on the way.

Great looking wheel, great price. I could not be happier.

I will post more pictures when the front runners are mounted and the car is running again.

If you are interested in a set let me know, I have a local company that can source them.

Understand there is no Motor or Transmission in the car, it will loose a ton of the height.

Wheels and lugnuts are $825 at full MSRP.

Tires are $300 for the fronts and $400 for the rears.

So a total of $1525 at full retail, which is significantly better than the CCW drag pack or Bogarts.

I got a little better deal on them, but could not find anything in this price range.

I ran that same rear tire from MT, andit needs to be on a 8.5 inch, as you wont get a full tread bite. Just my 2 cents. I ran all the way down to 10psi too.

You can do a set of 16 inch salad shooter style wheels from a 93-96 Camaro and run a 26.5 x 10.5 x 16 ET street or drag. I bought that combo, balanced, with almost new tires off ls1tech.com for $200. I weighed them and when compared to Weld's published wheel weight, my Z28 wheels are within 3 lbs. of the drag lite.

You can use the spare tire and wheel from the 05+ GTO's on the front. They are a 17 x 4 wheel and will work with the stock spare tire; or the fit the 17 inch M&H front runners great. I've seen them sell, with the M&H front runners already on them, for about $300 a set on the goat forums. They are a half way decent looking wheel as well, a black 5 spoke with nice thin spokes.

Sure, that combo doesn't look as nice as yours, but it's literally a third the price, clears all factory brake options, and will provide the same benefits as your set up at the track.

I agree, that is for someone on a serious budget. And as you said they do not look as nice, and I HAD a set of the goat wheels with no tires, and I spent about 75 shipped per wheel and factory spare tire. The offset was a little funky on them, which is the reason I choose these.

I wanted the car to look decent.

My point to the post is a decent drag wheel without the cost of CCW's or Bogarts. Also understand that i gave full MSRP and do not have that in them.

  • 17x9.5 - $194.95
  • S&H - $ 11.95
  • NO TAX!
Interesting note however, is that the 17x9.5 are back ordered until September!

The MINIMUM recommended wheel width is 8.5 but the maximum recommended wheel width is 10.5. So 9.5 is right in the middle for optimal fit and tread bite.

Tire pressure is all about track conditions and weight of car, power, 60 ft performanc, etc. In my experience 10 lbs is a little low for an ET Street tire. You have to remember you want a balance of launching well and getting good efficient rotation on the top end. I've had my best ET of 1.54 with 16"x9" '87 Vette Wheels and 26 11.5 x 16 ET Streets with 14-16 lbs pressure.

Not sure why MT doesn't make any 17" front-runners or wheels! With all the larger wheel/tire combinations you would think that MT, Hoosier, Goodyear, etc. would start to make 17" wheels / tires.

I will test it all out when it is all done in a month or so. I ran about 22 lbs in my ET Street Radials, and I am sure these will like the lower pressure.

I have no idea, the M&H's are a really nice tire.

I like them as well, but the XP's are long gone and they were the only ones to fit.
