Stock '88 mufflers cut open.
I am doing exhaust work and was curious what the mufflers looked like inside. I think these are stock '88 but I am not certain as I don't see any part numbers. The cases are aluminum and they are pretty light. I wish the new mufflers were as light!

Not much getting through that fake outlet.

Andrew:
Those stock mufflers are getting REAL hard to find. While I know they are very restrictive and choke the L98 severely, I'm surprised that you cut it up rather than sell it to some NCRS guy.

Yep. When I took off my '91's stock exhaust to put on Corsas it had the two clamps.
I had just signed up on the forum and sold the complete, original cat-back for only $20! It was in perfect condition with no rust (never left Florida) or scratches! I wish I knew about the NCRS people.
Oh, well. I figured I would have thrown it away otherwise.

If anyone still has the original (single outlet) mufflers on their early C4, it is a 15 minute job for any competent muffler shop to open up the dummy pipe. It really livens up the sound of the C4 and undoubtedly reduces the restriction on these mufflers.
Been there, done that and love the sound...
