Ok, back to the oil discussion for breaking in my rebuilt engine.
When chevy says they factory fill the vette with mobil 1, are they sticking nothing but mobil 1 in there while it's at the factory?
From what you guys have said, I should run dyno oil for 500 miles or so, then I'll be going to Mobil 1. But I'm really curious as to how chevy fills them with Mobil 1 from day 1, yet you guys almost all recommend running dyno oil to seat the rings properly.
I would strongly recommend running conventional oil in a non-OEM motor for at least 5K miles. Monitor oil consumption and switch to synthetic when it seems to stabilize at a reasonably low value like 2K mi/qt or less. If you switch too soon, there is a risk the motor will never break-in and oil consumption could be excessive. There is no drawback to waiting...your motor is not going to wear out in the first 10K miles on dino. Motors built on a GM assembly line are machined with precision tooling that costs many millions. It's been proven they can machine a motor for synthetic factory fill using appropriate tooling and hardware. Even Jasper can not compare.
