Anyone have any ideas why a 87 Corvette's fuel pump would keep running even after key is removed from ignition. What would be the cure, trying to fix fast because I leave for Kuwait on Sunday and want to make sure car is safe for my wife. Thanks all.
It can be a bad fuel pump relay or the oil pressure/fuel pump switch.
I've had a fan relay stick on(same part#) but i've not had the oil
pressure switch fail on. Unplug the FP relay and see if it stops. The
relay is on the firewall near the distributor. Benny
Or the dodgy connectors / wiring GM used that lose the insulation causing a direct feed to the pump.
Common problem.
Check the wires where they enter the relay plug for the insulation cracked or stripped back.
Then
1.Disconnect plug on oil pressure swtch; 2 pin switch. rear of block drv side of dist.If faulty can leave temporary disconnected , is back up if ECM feed to relay fails.
2. Swap fuel pump relay for fan relay to check if faulty relay.
Once again the Covette forum is the best. Went straight to the relay and unplugged it. At that point the harness started arcing due to stripped back wires on the connector. Fixed connector and all is well. Once again thanks guys!!
