This is my lower alternator bolt hole. A few years ago the bracket that bolts to this had broken and I replaced it. It does seem like there any tension on the bracket and I have never done anything to damage it like this.
I had two of these break in exactly the same place as yours because I didn't install the rear brace between the alternator and the exhaust manifold. Are you using the brace?
.... ....assuming that the internals of the alternator hasn't bitten the dust, i'd get another "half case" of the alternator and reassemble it and put it back on...(assuming no internal damages).....

I see you've got Hooker headers, the factory bracket won't work you'll have to fab up your own like I did.
I see you wrapped your steering shaft coupling, i noticed mine rubs on my headers. So the stock bracket will not fit? I will have to fab somthing somehow if that is the case.
My coupling doesn't rub, but it was close so I figured it couldn't hurt to wrap it.
And no the factory brace won't work with Hooker LTs because the factory brace goes on the second bolt (rear bolt on #1 primary) and the way the #1 primary is routed it goes directly in front of the bolt you'd need access to, pop your hood and take a look you'll see what I'm talking about. That's why I had to make a brace that went on the third bolt.
Thanks for the help, im gonna have to try to fab somthing up now. Im suprised hooker designed these without this bracket in mind. Apparently it is needed if my alternator just sheared in half. Kinda disapointing.
Thanks for the help ! Ill let you know how it turns out.
Thats what I was thinking of, thank you! Ill have too look this over a see if the bolt eyes will make the angles I need. This would look better in the engine compartment also.
Hrmm.. I've never run those rear brackets. Even on my fbody's, and trucks.. weird that you guys are having broken alts.

I think that the F bodys and trucks made use of the power steering bracket instead of the brace. I replaced the alternator on my '92 Yukon a few weeks ago and seem to remember installing the rear bolt through the power steering bracket.

Maybe. I dont have a chevy truck anymore so I can't double check. (bought a dodge). I'm in the process of redoing my alt tensioner, so I may fab the upper bracket to connect to both the rear and front of the alt to evenly distribute the load.
You are correct trucks and F-bodys use a different set-up. As far as the heim joint idea if you can figure something out using this PLEASE post pics, as I tried figuring it out myself and couldn't (too much angle needed in the brace design), I thought it would have looked alot better. That's why I had to make a bracket. I can't find any right now,
(probably because it's late and I'm lazy) but there's actually a couple threads about having to fab this bracket when using Hookers.
