I heard a roar like the window was open while I was on the highway this afternoon. I just checked the top and the glue seems to have given up on a pad about middle way across the passenger window. I expect that at speed (like 80 or so) it is opening up. I picked up some epoxy to re-glue it but I don't want to screw it up. Is it okay to use epoxy to refasten the top? Thanks guys.
Id get some contact cement from hardware store. Epoxy will get hard and when you fold top down its going to crack back off. Just brush a lite coat on the pad and a coat on the inside of top where it goes. wait about 10 minutes then stick in on. That will be pretty permanent and will still fold up with the top. Ask for the pint can of the contact cement for like formica counter tops, thats what I use for upholstery work.
I'm not sure where on the top your talking about. I installed my top and the only places the top gets glue is the front bow, side curtains, and rear bow. Weather strips are reuseable provided they are in good shape. If its the weather strip that came lose use weather strip adhesive (3M is good). If the top is coming lose from the front or rear bow then I recommend 3M Heavy Duty upholstery glue (the weather strip and upholstery adhesive can be found at your local auto parts store).
Hope this helps to clarify the situation. The convertible top on the right side above the passenger window no longer sticks tight to the conv. frame. I can put my hand in between the exterior material and the headliner material. On further analysis, there seems to be a plastic or nylon pad that the top should be sticking to. I was thinking that I need to re-glue it there where it looks to have separated. Hope this helps. :D
are you talking about the Velcro strip across the top of the window? Velcro does wear out, you can replace it by just taking it off and gluing on new. You should be able to get it at the dealer or a fabric shop. Make sure you get 'Velcro' brand, theres cheap imitations. :)
