Default Oil Leak

I have a 92 Lt1 that has an oil leak that I'm having difficulty tracking down. It does not leak at idle, but it leaks under load - right onto my cat. (then drips on my floor while parked). It's coming from the right side of the engine. It's not the valve cover gasket. I think it may be coming from the sensor mounted in the side of the block (mid-block near top, right side) - but I'm not sure...

This is the oil pressure sensor, right?

Thanks in advance

Wipe it down as well as you can. Then go buy a dye/black light kit. You'll find the leak in no time.

Obviously I can't see the leak myself but it sounds more like the rear intake to china wall RTV.

Oh and if that sensor you've found has an identical twin on the other side of the block then that's the knock sensor.

The oil pressure sensor is on the top of the block at the rear of the intake on the driver side.

There is no sensor located in that location of the block? When you say right side, your talking about the passenger's side?

This was leaking as well - I took the intake off and re-sealed it, and it's definitely not leaking here anymore -

I'll take a look at the driver's side tonight, and take pictures of the sensor in question...

I have cleaned the engine thoroughly then allowed it to dry, then driven the car. I've done this several times and thus narrowed it done to the one area. It slowly drips onto my starter while parked, and onto my cat when running under load... The dye / black light idea is cool - would I get that at an autoparts store? I've never heard of this approach to finding leaks...

Thanks - I know the sensor you're talking about (thankfully it's not leaking)...

Yup - passenger side just in front of the rear spark plug (and higher on the block). I'll take pics tonight...

Hmmmm, the spark plugs are in the heads which sit on top of the block. The sensor can't be higher than the spark plug and still be in the block.

I'm sure we can fiqure it out with a pic.

Sorry - I meant head, not block... :o

Here's the pics. Sorry for the poor angles - it's hard to get a camera in there:

That is your coolant temp sensor. It won't leak oil, only coolant.

It may be an intake leak. Rub your finger along the rear of the intake.

Default Update

I found the leak... The dipstick is a 3 pc item: the steel shaft, the cup that sits over the tube, then the handle. The cup is loose and does not seal on the tube, and the cup does not fit tight to the shaft either... I ordered a new one from Ecklers...

Typical: $20 fix that took $400 to find...

You should buy a zz4 setup to go with those headers.

By setup do you mean a ZZ4 crate engine? I'm running a Lingenfelter 383 right now... I think I've got the ZZ4 beat

No a zz4 dipstick and tube, it bolts to the side of the block so that it will not be incorporated into the exhaust assembly.

I had the same problem. Oil leak on the right making a mess and burning on my right cat. In addition, it was making a mess on my garage floor. Not a ton of oil but enough to make a mess. It was the rear seal on the intake manifold. I used Felpro gaskets and Permatex Ultra Black especially on the back wall which was the source of the leak. The removal of the intake was a breeze. Just be sure to make not of which bolts go where. Take pictures as you disassemble as there are a ton of vacuum lines etc. Also be sure to use a torque wrench when bolting the intake down. Don't over tighten.
