Default When good bulbs go bad (Pics)

I got in this morning to see this:

So off I go to NAPA to get a new bulb, and was pleasantly surprised to find out I get a 15% discount because when I work buys lots and lots of stuff from them. So I pull the dash cover off, and go to pull the bulb out, and the socket falls in. :( The bulb was in good shape, apparently the socket went bad. Never heard of that before, but there's a first time for everything.

So I had to pull the dash completely off. :(

I pulled the seat out because I kept hitting my head on the guage pod. *My head still hurts*

Here's the problem! It would not come out!

Digging in. This proves a suspicion I've had for a while, that the car has a lot more miles on it than the dash says. The serial number doesn't match the VIN and its for a Z51 car. Oh well, just about everything is new now.

There is the piece we're after! Is that RAM? I don't know a lot about computers, but that looks like RAM. Could we upgrade that?

Bad pic, but here's the socket fatigued and cracked all over.

New one in place.

Back together and its all lit up! Woohoo! :)

You really should of changed ALL of them while you were in there. I learned that one the hard way. :) So the odometer has a serial that is supposed to match the VIN? First I've heard of it, hmmmm......

What was your head doing down by the cluster? You can sit in the seat and remove the cluster. When we tell you to use your head we don't mean as a tool, we mean use your intelligence. Got it? You are a gluten for punishment.

lol, this was my first time removing the dash and I was looking for bolts. I had to have hit my head at least 4 times. Those guages are always getting in the way, I wasn't paying attention once while u-turning and knocked my elbow on it really good.

BTW, thanks a lot for your reply to my alternator problem. :)

Yeah, like me. :D Great photos. I guess you didn't need to lower the steering column then. I'll have to go try jiggle & wiggle some more to see if I can get my cluster out.

BTW, how did you get the seat out? I'm looking for my shift pattern button I dropped under the seat one day. Plus I would like to clean real good under there. thanx

You can remove just the bottom cushion if you want and get at everything. There is a clip on the front edge you can feel. Push it down and back and it will unclip from the seat frame. Then the bottom will pull out of the way.

Hey, did anybody send the bulbs? I have some 882's (I think that's it) sitting on my bench I been trying to give away for a year now. Say the word they are in the mail tomorrow.

In my 85, the seat can be removed by undoing the 4 nuts and 1 electrical connector. Piece of cake IF you keep the connector plugged in to move the seat forward and backward to access the bolts. -Matt-

NoWorries - are you saying the numbers on that yellow sticker is supposed to match the car VIN? If so then Rats, mine doesn't match. :( ~Juliet

Yuppers. My titles / mileage per carfax all seemed to line up OK too. I suppose if they did replace the cluster they might have followed the official keep the Odometer w/ the car procedure. ;) I dunno. Thanks for all your help Scorp & No Worries & everyone else! ~Juliet
