I remember this was a big thing, everybody said they were going to do it, but I never saw any pics.
Since I took my dash apart tonight, I realized it really is easy to get too. Anybody thats experimented...what are the best colors? Does Blue work with sun glares/night driving?
Re: [old topic revisited] Changing Digidash color (NoWorries)
Hmmmm.....that sounds very interesting to me.....i took my cluster apart trying to replace an LCD panel, and i noticed the colors are all on a thin vynil sheet. I dont exactly know how somebody would go about making a new one of these but i would imagine it could be done pretty easily. if anybody has any ideas i would be very interested.
Re: [old topic revisited] Changing Digidash color (NoWorries)
I don't know how easy / hard it would be, but I wouldn't use a blue tint. The problem with blue light is that the wavelength of blue actually strains the eyes and does not clearly define shapes in low light/visability conditions. The best is obviously a bright clear / white light. Reds and Oranges are better than blue, if you have to have a different color. Good luck.
You probably saw me look into it. It appears to be rather easy in theory. My only worry is finding a product to use in place of the current color filters that will stand up to the heat the halogen bulbs put out and not distort and/or fade. Perhaps a very thin sliver of plexiglass could be dyed semi-translucent. You might have better luck using shades that when filtered through the 1st, and then 2nd layer produce your final color. Then place these 2n filters in FRONT of the LCD panes yet behind the bezel.
Hey Scorp- what about using some gel sheets from a photography store??? I know they come in different colors, you would just have to check if they would work for this settup. I'm sure they would hold up to the heat. I dont know how hard they are to find though.....any photographers???
IF you are worried about heat, the gel sheets used in Kleig lites for stage/theater live productions have a VERY high tolerance level for heat, and come in any shade you want....YP's to the source in your area....
