Something like 20 ft/lb is ringing a bell in my head, I'm not positive though.

Thanks Scorp....

I also found an archived reply that recommended 26 ft lbs. That's what I'll go with.

The Hayne's manual says...150 ft lbs

I snapped one bolt :mad , so I figured I should ask before breaking another.

Thanks again,

 For the strap bolts? That sounds like the camber bolt.

You sure the Haynes manual didnt say 150 inch?I mis read a figure like that once.
Believe it or not,I never torqued mine down. I use the blue #2 thread locking compound(a Must) and tightened down hand tight.
Of course a month later I rechecked them and they were still snug.I had to use such a long extension, large ratchet, etc from outside the wheel wells doing the half shaft joints I didnt bother using the torque wrench.
I hope when you said you snapped a bolt, you got that one out?Btw, those bolts are about 3-5 bucks a piece from GM.One guy quoted me 7 bucks a piece! I then asked him if they take Medical Insurance cards.

I'm sure it says 150 ft lbs for the "Universal Joint Strap Bolts" on the second page of chapter 8 in the Haynes....

I haven't removed it yet. I was too depressed to continue when it snapped last night. I'm going to work on it tonight. Wish me luck. I will be getting a new bolt tomorrow from the Chevy Dealer...$2.

I just checked my haynes manual, and in chapter 8 it says 150 In-lbs and NM is 17.

We got to be careful with those numbers..as I stated I misread a number like that as Ft-lbs and lucky I spotted a washer bending before I snapped the bolt and went back to re check and it was In-lbs.
Good Luck and keep us posted on the bolt that broke off.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to pick up my new bolt today. I am also going to get a screw/bolt extractor. I had to remove the diff again to get a good angle on the broken bolt. I was able to drill into it straight enough to not damage any threads.

While I'm at the dealer, I'm going to get the torque specs for all strap bolts. As I have been working on this I think I have discovered that the drive shaft strap bolts should be 22-29 ft lbs and maybe its the half shaft straps that should be 150 ft lbs.

I'll let you know what I can confirm....:flag

Thanks again,

Update!!!

Check this out.....

GM Shop Manual for 1986 Corvette says:
Driveshaft - torque retaining strap bolts to 150 in. lbs. or 12.5 ft lbs
For Trunion straps at side gear yoke torque 26 ft. lbs.
For trunion straps at spindle yoke torque 26 ft. lbs.

This is what I'm going with. I'll let you know the results.
