Ok, I find that the fuel pressure should be a tad bit higher so I order a new fuel pump (AC DELCO from Superior Chevy), strainer and a new fuel filter. I get the FP/strainer installed-no change, the fuel pressures are exactly the same. So I go on and change the filter. While doing this I find that the #8 spark plug is a little loose, so I tighten it up as well.
Still not much different from before. It idles much better, but it still bogs when I rev it up, it has even back fired or "popped" a couple of times. No power, smells like it is running very rich.
I need some advice here, I am running out of options!
It IS running rich. And it is fouling everything with unburned gas.
I'm thinkin' ignition control circuit fault.
Do your dash lights flicker in sync with your idle miss? Watch VERY carefully...
I'll be honest, I did not notice the dash lights flickering, but then again I didn't look at the dash lights while it was doing it. There have been no codes set other than the H43 which didn't surprise me since it was pinging along pretty good at times.
Popping came through TB. I was standing right there running the throttle by hand when it did it once.
Redeasy, yes I know and mine hasn't been on there for too much more than a 15 or 16 months maybe 6k miles.
Well guys (and gals), I just wanted to update this issue. I fought this for a while and I really can't even go into the entire saga, but I will say that I have finally resolved the issue.
Ultimately it came down to a bad optispark...this one was only 1 1/2 years old (less than 6000 miles). but as you can see in the picture the cap was toast and the rotor was shot as well. I could have gotten by with replacing the cap and rotor, but I decided that if I had it down that far I should replace the entire opti and I DID NOT go back with genuine GM, but chose to go with MSD. More money than GM, but I was not going to chance it again.
Jon Banner....I still have, at this point, the OE injectors in place. I think I am going to leave them in for now.
Bingo--I was wondering when someone was going to suggest "opti". Usually this happens by the second or third post and oftentimes the opti is not really the problem. It looks like this time it was.

Congrats for solving.
Doug
Redeasysport alluded to the opti but at that point I was still convinced that it was nearly new and expected genuine GM parts were better than that.
