PKE light is on all the time, tried to program a 2 button fob and I could go all the way through except the last step. That is where you bring the fob in range.
Check for CCM error codes 13 or 14 and they were not present, then checked the voltage to the receiver and it was fine. Pulled the connector and check for corrosion or bent pin or broken wire and everything was ok.
According to the FSM, that means the receiver is bad.
If you want to know everything I did, do a search on 93jetjocky, he helped me diagnose the PKE a couple of years ago. He did a great right up on diagnosing the PKE system.

The PKE light on all the time is a bad thing. I was curious because if you make it all the way through the program and the last step fails I have found that when the key is turned off it sometimes loses contact and drops out of programming mode. To rectify that I held the key in when turning it off and had someone bring the fob to me. You might want to give that a try but as I said my PKE light was not on all the time.

I will try that, thanks Red.
Here is a way to test the pke:
with key off:
Ground 'H' on the DLC. To do this, use a paper clip and put one side in the top right slot, this is the ground. Put the other end into the bottom slot second from the left, this is the 'H' terminal.
Next turn the key to the 'ON' position, SO NOT start.
Your PKE lamp will flash your codes:
12 - Receiver memory bad
13 - Transmitter not in range
14 - Transmitter received
15 - Valid transmitter
16 - Passenger door button pressed
17 - hatch button depressed
there will be a pause between each number and each code will flash 3 times.
You sound like you have the same problem as me, your contacts are corroded, so you only get a signal sporatically. Your PKE receiver is in the dash, take off your dash in the center and clean your contacts.

Actually I got mine working after a couple of tries when I held the key in. It was either worn key or contacts in the steering column. Most of us actually push the key in when we start our cars sub consciously so it may contribute to this.

Mine stopped recognizing the key fob, and my light would come on randomly, lock my doors and then pop open my rear hatch. MOST of the time this was me driving on the freeway to work, so I'd have to pull over and close my hatch then keep my door from locking on the rest of the way in. I have a HUGE feeling that mine is bad too! Thanks

I finally found one, vette2vette has them for $380 new or a used one for $100.
For $380, I think I will put in an aftermarket.

Let me know how bad the install is. I believe I need one as well.
My light will come on randomly, and when a fob is brought into range.
However, the light will not come on when I turn the key on, nor will it go into programming mode no matter how many times I try, I get no flashing light.
I've heard sometimes you don't get the flashing light. So I've tried programming it many times without the light flashing (still using the correct procedure) and it will not accept the fob.
I know the batteries are good, because of the fact that the PKE light on the DIC comes on when a fob is brought into range.

Let me suggest that you go back to www.gmpartsdirect.com and punch in part number 88960923 and you find that that have what you need and batteries for $105.90
I clicked the link and entered the part #, and it is for a key fob. Isnt he looking for the reciever?

This was after having replaced the original receiver once, and while losing the key fob sucks, I really don't miss the PKE enough to risk the locks cycling randomly and the hatch opening by itself !
