Need help with spacer for 84 Corvette
I am considering purchasing later model wheels for my 84 Corvette.
Front - Stock 84 wheel / tire
P255/50/VR-16
16 x 9.5
+38 off set
Front - Later Corvette wheel
P245/45ZR-17
17 X 8.5
+58
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rear - Stock 84 wheel / tire
P255/50/VR-16
16 x 9.5
+38 off set
Rear - Later Corvette wheel / tire
P275/40ZR-18
18 X 9.5
+65
I am looking for help on this possible wheel and tire purchase. Is this tire and rim set recommended for an 1984?
Will I need spacers / adapters for the front wheels and tires? Size of spacer needed?
What size spacer is needed to use these wheels and tires on the rear?
Recommeded spacers / adapters to use?
The wheels are the thin spoke. He is looking at $600 for the Goodyear tires, wheels with center caps. The tires have 30 to 40% tread life.
Good Deal????? Spacer sizes need for front and rear?
No one makes metric adaptors so you just have to convert.For the front 58 minus 38 is 20mm so the closest available would be a 3/4" adaptor.I've not seen a 65mm offset but if that's correct 65 minus 38 is 27mm so you need a 1" adaptor.(just checked,it's a ZO6 offset).
Should I use wheel adapters?
On the 84 Corvette the offset is so much different than later cars.
What is your feeling about using 3/4 and 1" wheel adapters?
Stay away? "OK" or look for wheels with correct offset?
Many thanks
The best way is always to buy the correct offset-36mm in your case.I had a bad balance issue when using 3/4" adaptors so I put on the correct rims.
Thanks for the reply.
I had adapters on a Porsche 911 and used Porsche wheels too.
I had no problems with high speed at all with this setup.
But it comes down to the quality of the adapters, wheels and tire quality too.
Very good advise with using the +38 offset wheel only.
