Default Alternator rebuild kits

Has anyone used one of the kits you pick up off the internet to rebuild their alternator? Is it worth the trouble or is it better to pick up a "new" one?
The reason I ask is that I've noticed a lower gage reading and fluctuation while idling, especially with the AC cranking and a turn signal on. Is my alternator soon to be in ICU?

.... ...i rebuild my alternators and is very easy....i think i have 4 unused kits (maybe more) in my garage to upgrade the older style alternators to 100 amps.....

Where did you buy the kits? Can you upgrade to an even higher amperage rating?

I have a 96. . . but I dont know the amperage rating.

i have a spare 105a alt from a 1990 car for $45 shipped. my vote is to do the LT1 upgrade though. much better design than the 105a L98 units.

Generic alt rebuild kits are available at most parts stores.
I have done a couple of other cars using those kits.

As we all know, our vettes eat alternators. I got tired of being stranded by rebuilt units and got a new AC Delco upgrade one.
Best one so far....knock wood.
