Default 88 Door Speaker Connector Access

...88 vette coupe..yesterday, i developed a speaker cutting in an out on occasion located in my PASSENGER side door...

...reasonably assume it is a bad or loose connection at the speaker....once i get the door panel off, will i be able to "reach under/around" to grab the speaker connector to the speaker?....

.....will do this first before i do surgery on the dash to check connections behind the radio.....

......Thanks..

Easier with the Panel off.

I doubt it's the connector - the draw is nothing - it's a weatherpak and most of the Bose problems are simply the amp. Watch the shields on the drain wires too (if you start snaking your way back to the dash) Monkeyed with mine once to often and ended up with terminal alternator whine.

...thanks for the reply....i find that when i am listening to music and if it cuts out momentarily, if i grab and turn up the volume a bit, the speaker will turn on....i sincerely doubt that this is a problem emmanating from a dirty fader, balance, or volume control.....i have had a similar circumstance on another vehicle and it was a connector......however, is the connector to the speaker readily accessible?

You can remove the 4" speaker to check the + / - leads on the speaker. IF you want to check the connection in the amp, then you have to remove the enclosure.

NO. Its a "speaker enclosure" with only opening a small port for sound, at best slightly larger than a Quarter and with the inner chamber cannot get anything in it. When you remove it you'll see its a nice solid piece of engineering and quality construction. The amp is mounted below the speaker with not way of removing. You have to take the enclosure apart (7-9 screws) which you can only do by removing the whole enclosure.

....thanks for the reply...i assumed that there has to be an EXTERNAL connection to the speaker enclosure that i can/could reach from one of the holes in the door as opposed to actually reaching the wires to the speaker itself.....

I don't know what you would get checking speaker voltages - inputs are a variable low a/c voltage - like a volt. If replacement amps or speakers are available, I'd get one and slap it in there. If that cures it, you're done. If not, you've got a spare and given the reliability of the Bose, you might just need a couple.

thanks for the reply.......well, i never mentioned checking any voltages in any of my posts pertaining to this problem, however, some wire or connector HAS to connect to the speaker enclosure externally and an internal "mating" wire then would connect to the amp circuit board, etc.....my
question(s) currently are pertaining to if i can remove the door panel and reach my had inside the door shell and find/reach the "external" connector and see if a loose or "bad" connection exists there.....
