power windows not working
The power windows on a buddy's '92 coupe are no longer working. We are having little success fixing this. Here's the symptoms and what has been checked...
* At first, the driver's window was fine. The pass. window would fail once in a while, and fix itself shortly thereafter.
* Now, both windows no longer work.
* Swapped circuit breakers on the passenger side fuse box, didn't help.
* Grounds at the driver's/passenger's kick panels seem to be okay. (My '96 shop manual says only the driver's side ground is used for the windows)
* Swapped the driver's side window switch with a unit from Contemporary, still doesn't work.
* The dashboard voltmeter drops about 0.2V when you hit either window switch.
Any ideas? I'm leaning away from the motors because it seems unlikely both would fail at the same time, but now I 'm at kind of a loss after the new window switch didn't cure it. Any ideas
Thanks and have a great weekend

they are about 60.00 each from carfan18, Jeff Kopp 1-800-728-8267
Window motors that get little use will fail due to corrosion on the commutator where the brushes connect. This can be repaired if you disassemble the motor. ( I just fixed two PW motors last weekend )
Just so you know, the window motor has a built in circuit breaker, there is none in the wiring to it, except for one in the fuse panel.
