Default help programing PKE!

my old remote broke (tab that goes to the key ring snapped off) but it was acting up anyways so i got a new one. Tried programing it with the instructions they gave me but i cant get the PKE light on the DIC to come on, showing its in programing mode. i pushed the trip/odm button twice then pushed and held the fuel info button for quite some time. (3 mins or so) but the light wont come on. I have both remotes out of range. Is it possible i have the PKE system off. Anyone with any advise please help this is making me mad

ok here is a little more info on whats going on - i have been working on it for the last 2 hours to try and figure it out and have got nowhere. ok so when i turn the key on the light does PKE light does not come on for the 2 seconds like its supposed to. I got the spare set of keys the are less worn down and used them and when i push and hold them in and turn the key on the PKE light comes on and stays on until you turn the key back 2 off and pull the key out and put it back in. (once you reinsert it it goes off) thats the only way i can get it to light up on the DIC at all. Help Please ima lose sleep over this lol

thanks but that realy doesnt help me becuase i cant get it to go into the programing mode at all. i have a brand new fob and my old one with a brand new battery. the problem is when i turn the key on the light doesnt come on at all unless i use my spare key and hold it in as i turn it to the on position and when i do that it comes on and stays on. (never does it do the 2 second light check deal).

I am not understanding what you are saying.I posted the link concerning the tumbler not making good contact sometimes if not pushed in . Can you get to step one of the programming with the old key?You said the old one had issues what kind? Does it work at all even though it is broke? Where are the fobs when you put the key in? Away from the car I hope if you are trying to get it in programming mode.If the new fob is near the car when you turn the key on it may cause a PKE light I think.

I can see no reason for the PKE light to come on with one key and not the other. It is not dependent on the key ,except for programming, like the VATS is.Can you start the car with both keys?Do you have the FSM and have you done the troubleshooting tree for the PKE? You need to do that to help resolve this problem. Maybe the old one's issues were caused by a failing PKE module and the trouble shooting tree will help narrow it down.It will help my understanding if you do not use run on sentences and slang IM stuff.It makes things hard to read. Add some capitalization too.

I think the reason the light comes on with the spare key is becuase it is less worn down. The car starts fine with both keys but the only way i can get the PKE light to come on is if i hold in on the spare key as i turn the key to the on possition. I have the remotes 50 feet away. How do i tell if its the FOB or the PKE reciever? Where is the reciever modual located? I cant tell if I can get into the first mode of programing becuase the only time the light comes on it stays on and when i turn the key off it stays on also untill i take the key out and put it back in.(once i put it back it the light goes out). But remember this is only possible with the spare(less worn) key.

I have never heard of the PKE light doing what you say it is doing. Key off out of tumbler and the light stays on? I would try and do the programming and do as I said in the above link to see if you get to the flashing PKE light after you turn the key off then have someone bring the fob to you.

The module is in the dash and not a lot of fun to get to. You need the Factory Service Manual to do the diagnostics on the module before tearing into it. No sense in wasting time and money till you confirm by the step by step diagnostic tree what is going wrong. I doubt it is the Fob but could be bad wiring just not where at. Mabey the CCM dunno. As I said the key itself should have nothing to do with the PKE module (unless it checks the pellet before allowing programming) and does not make the light stay on. What ever is doing the check DIC light sequence at key on(CCM?) is the likely culprit and why one key does it and not the other is a mystery to me.

FSM=Factory Service Manual Find it at
http://www.helminc.com/helm/product2...RKUC0PS6LNEHAD or fleabay

Once you have the manual search for the Passive keyless entry section and there will be a troubleshooting tree telling you what to do.

CCM= Central control module.

Have you checked you codes? Since you have a OBDII car you can take it to autozone to get them checked.

Not sure you need to do some reasearch in the archives and get the FSM. It will guide you through the steps to diagnose your problem. It does not always give thew answer exactly but will rule out quite a bit. Get your codes checked they stay in history it may tell you something is amiss.
