for a quick recap of the BBK TPI story over the past four years:
Post #15 - Oct 29/04 (BBK TPI intake setup ($399.00))
I went to BBK today right after work. I got to speak to a lady
who said she was a Manager there. and she gave me some
good info!! heres a run down of our convo
me: hi i saw on your website that there is a new TPI system
coming out soon, could you give me more info on that?
her: yes its based on the TPI system for camaro and firebird.
me: i was wondering when it was going to be available
her: its going into production in Jan 05
My brother was able to talk to the Vice President of BBK,
Ken Murphey, at the SEMA show today about the new intake
that will be released by his company. He is a really nice guy and
has some great ideas and great products. He seems excited about
this new intake and it should be a killer setup for our cars. In this
post I will list all the information we were able to obtain about the
intake. It is important to note that this intake is still in the
development stage and all this information is subject to change.
As stated above this intake is still in the prototype stage and only
the intake base is complete. They did not have the prototype at
SEMA so sorry no pictures available yet. Below are the questions
from my previous post and their answers, I have also added and
taken away a few questions. It is important to note that the
answers are not the exact answers or wording we got from the
guys at BBK, I have put them into my own words:
Q) What is the price range of this new intake setup?
A) The price is targeted around $600.
Q) When is this intake scheduled to be released?
A) They should have it out for summer 2005 sales.
The way projects like this eat up time here is amazing.
Keystone's new catalog. Here is a pic of it in their catalog.
is in our pattern shop here in So. Cal. and has been there for
a few months now.
substitute for this setup that costs about the same??
It should be out closer to the end of summer this year.
The marketing dept. is always a few months ahead of
the rest of us since they have to get the advertising
out before new items become available so they don't
sit silently on the shelves with nobody knowing of it's
existence.
Plus the catalogs only get printed once a year, so they
have to look months ahead to make sure they have
everything possible covered.
Date: Winter 2008."
As for the Horsepower TV Segment - if you mean the 16 sec of
footage (1:27-1:43) showing an employee using a height gauge
on a TPI lower intake manifold shown in the BBK tour, this is hardly
proof that production is any more imminent than it has been for the
past several years.
I am as eager as the next L98 owner for new intake choices to
become available. However, more than enough anticipation has
gone unrewarded for too long. Until BBK has product on the shelves
of distributors, my vote is that their much rumoured TPI intake does
not exist. They know, or ought to know, about the interest amongst
consumers - there's nothing to be gained by talking BBK up any
further at this point.

Everything else is forum heresay from people talking out of their a**.

I'm seriously considering one on my 383 build but I would enjoy seeing more data with the intake dyno'd on larger cubic inch motors.
