What is the best Radar detector??
I just bought a 300$ uniden, the new one with a GPS stalite in it. but i have passed a couple cops and it has not went off. so i was kinda wondering, what is the best radar that you guys know about, where can i get one, and how much. thanks,

Matt, check out radartest .com,they picked escort 8500,just order mine today,have a 5year old uniden now works but shorter range than escort hope this helps...

Is it just me or does this topic come up every week?
This is a religious argument - much like my DSL vs. your Cable Modem vs. his Web TV.
If you are happy with what you have why ask for someone elses approval?
My .02 is Mike Valentine has won every legitimate test I have seen - since 1978.
The original Escort

The Valentine One
All of these were designed by Mike Valentine. Some goober (who tried unsuccessfully to get Valentine to hire him) spends 50.00 for a web site at http://www.radartest.com and suddenly he's an expert. You do have to love the Internet as everyone can be an expert for 50.00 (or even less).
About 2 years ago Car and Driver tested a bunch of new units against not only the V1, but also a then ~10 year old Passport and a ~15 year old Escort. Even the 15 year old Escort beat everything except the V1 and the original Passport on X and K bands.
I don't suppose radartest.com has a reprint of that test.....or any of the countless others where V1 won.
So if you really want to know what is the best Radar Detector - call up Valentine and give 'em a credit card number. Test the unit for 30 days against the 8500. You can easily send the V1 back if your 8500 better.

well thats make me feel better glock thanks,got to be better than my old uniden,with it i see the cop about same time as it goes off,kept me out of lots of trouble over the years though :)

RUT ROE..Here we go again!!!!!!! Have had 'em all>>>>>>>ESCORT 8500 is superior....Great anti-falsing system....Really great on K and KA band's.......Any of the top brands>>>>ESCORT....Valentine.....Bel. will be a good choice.....gonna have people pcking each as there personal favorite.I think it was Motor Trend ranked Escort 8500 as #1 but even though this is what i have....the other before mentioned two was running a close race...Remember the Atlanta race this year when the 29 car beat the 24 car by 4 inches as they crossed the finish line at 200 mph.????/ About the same here....Which is the best>>>personal preference and user ability<<<yes .user ability not to let it all depend on any detector..Realize danger zones...keep an eye open and watch the rigs...unless you have a cb and police scanner in your car..........good luck!!!!! :cheers:

Well, I just purchased a Escort 8500 about two weeks ago... here's why:
1. Radar test ranked it #1.
2. Features. Fully programmable, lotsa displays (including car voltage! :cool: )
3. Price: $100 less than V1 (which I considered!)
4. Cool Smart cord. I had an extra one thrown in for the sale :)
5. This is understated: The V1 can track multiple RADAR sources, but the 8500 can TOO! Up to eight and display which bands they are on and the signal for each! Actually, that's what sold me (finally). Oh, and it worked GREAT in Ohio! Troopers like to sit one-two in the median and at one point, it was showing 4 sources: 2-X and 2-K. Paid for itself in the first trip!
This are just the reasons I got mine. You make your own educated choice.

I have both a Valentine and a Bell 970. both are really good! i think the Bell is a little more sensitive but it's like they said about 4 feet.
