I sent my 92 coupe to my mechanic to fix my Air Conditioning. He just called me and said that he got the freon in but the only way the compressor will run is if he puts his testlight on the green wire. The green wire that is part of the 2 wire plug on the compressor. I would imagine that means he is grounding the green wire and that is engaging the compressor. This all started because I had no low freon code (09) and no freon in the system. My question is what grounds that wire and what do I need to replace?

Mr suncr is the a/c guru around these parts.
Seems if your mechanic was able to get the compressor to run by by-passing a circuit, then there's a fault in THAT circuit. Can he not find the fault?
I told him it was going to be more than a simple recharge but he didnt want to believe me. He says he doesnt want to keep throwing parts at it. i think youre right Shrade...he doesnt know where the fault is. I sent a message to SunCr. Hopefully hell get back to me. My mechanic said he got 22 oz. of refridgerant into the system so it has enough to deactivate the low pressure switch but I think thats whats broken...the low pressure cut out switch. But im not a mechanic
Jumping the low pressure switch is a paper clip trick. I think someone said there's 2 on vettes tho', so which one to jump I'm not sure.
Funny about the mechanic not wantin' to toss parts in *****-nilly hopin' for a hit - I'd say about 100% of 'em will be more than glad to take your $$$ for that - from shadetree hacks, to the dealer.......
If the switch IS bad, your mechanic will have to evacuate the refrigerant at no extra charge of course. You don't put it in without testing the switch FIRST.
He did say he would have to take the freon back out to change the switch. My company ( my families business) spends thousands every year with this garage so he treats me right when its my personal stuff. I went to autozone to price the switches out and they were only 20 to 30 dollars a piece so i dont care if he has to change them both out. i just want the ac to work at this point
