I don't know about the labor, but the parts seem a little high to me. You can get a customized TransGo shift kit, Vigilante 9.5 inch convertor (arguably one of the best TCs out there with great warranty that they'll pay for a rebuild and you get 2 stall changes), complete rebuild kit with more than offered there for $71 less than the parts price that shop lists. I know this from personal experience with MY OWN money.

I know I'm starting to sound like a talking billboard for Dana at Probuilt Automatics, but you could have better rebuild parts and an AWESOME TC for less than what they want in parts there. Even if you didn't get the Vigilante TC and replaced it with the TC they are selling there, you would save $513. That means that he is charging $513 extra in parts ALONE - that screams corvette tax to me.

Well, enough with my rant - if you can't remove it and don't have the time to R&R it yourself, then you have no choice but to go with the cheapest shop you can without sacrificing the quality of parts and service you expect.

*Let me guess, you must bring the tranny to them to service it for that warranty to be valid? I think they're counting on you seeing the tranny apart and getting scared and thinking you have no choice but to let them finish it.

Edit: Just saw you would like to DIY, but can't because you don't have a lift. If you feel safe enough, do what I did (check out my DIY rebuild post - tranny is done and in the car, but ran into engine trouble on start-up) and put it on quality high-lift jackstands, get a tranny lift (~$60 from Harbor Freight) and maybe at least install it yourself. If you want, you can even rebuild it yourself - it just takes patience and an attention to detail.

About to break?

I heard that once before. The soothsayer in that case was this guy:

Maybe it IS about to break. Tell 'em you're originally from Missouri - that's the 'SHOW-ME' state.

dayum, that guy is bold,
line 1 the rebuild kit, decent price
line 2. only slightly over priced. 18.00 vs their 46.00
lines 3 - 14 definatly all in master rebuild kit all priced out at over 200.00 OMG, but there is one thing missing, he is no doubt tossing that in free..... the ****-eze
they are chargeing for the rebuild kit twice, and the second time, tripled the price. then another 71.00 for a shift correction kit.
twice for the filter ( included in a rebuild kit )

and 129.00 to take it out, and 162.00 to put it back in?

maybe he didnt forget to include the ****-eze, thats what the extra 40.00 is for on the re-install

Dude, this place is not only just flat ripping you off, they are telling you how they are doing it.

and i would highly doubt the torque converter is bad, but if it is that would fit the cause of the original problem.

sorry for the rant, but damn i hate to see anyone get ripped off like that jeez, PATC will ship you a better unit to the shop for less than that rebuild and it will be superiour in every way
