Everything on my 92 coupe was going fine until my clutch is starting to slip (at least I think that is the case). Whilst I was driving, the code SYS flashed up 3 times. This happened every minute. I have not pulled the codes yet but is it safe to drive another 200 odd miles or will the computer "shut down" the engine? I am not sure whether the clutch problem is associated with the code. Please help as I am a fair distance from home.
Re: David F - SYS SYS SYS code. Please help! (Mark92)
The "SYS" usually refers to a battery dying.
But the other day I had a blown fuse and anytime I checked the volts, "SYS" would flash. I put a new fuse in and the "SYS" went away.

No big deal, just a low battery. If the battery is a few years old it might be replacement time. Mine did it when the car sat for a few weeks, once driven the light went out and has not returned.

The SYS is not from the ECM. It is from the CCM, so really not to worry. It's either a bad battery or something is wrong with your BOSE stereo, or a few other non critical items. Car will run just fine with it like this.
Re: David F - SYS SYS SYS code. Please help! (Mark92)
You need to get a paper clip and jump the A to G terminal of the ALDL connector(that's the top right and bottom left) and see what codes you have, it's true you could have a voltage problem but that uasualy happens during start up not as you are driving, Also an aftermarket radio that did not have a resistor added to the back lighting circuit will also cause a SYS flashing in the LCD but also problems with the ECM can also show up with a flashing of the SYS and this could happen while driving. I'm sure if things seem to be working you would be OK to drive home but if you are starting to have problems with the ECM there is no telling what could happen. Codes to look for are in the CCM 1.1 41,loose of comunacation with ECM, and 50 - 56 which could be signs of problems with the ignition lock cylinder reading the key pelet, 30 - 36 would be clock codes usaualy set by low voltage, 72,74 back lighting don't worry for now.

Dear All,
Thanks very much for all your help. Today when i drove I had no problems, but you have helped by putting my mind at ease.
Any answers to how long a clutch should last on a ZF six speed?
Thanks in advance.
