I have a 90 coupe with 104 k miles. My cruise is not operational. This has not been a problem as I do not get to take long road trips, but would be nice to have all systems fuctioning. Where should I start? I have checked fuses. All checked out fine and replaced defective fuses. Also, should there be a "door ajar" sound? I don't have it. Though I did hear it on a very cold morning, also resulting in no climate control. Later that day I started the car and had temp control but no door ajar alarm.......weird.
I don't know if it would be this simple, but when I looked into mine (87), I found the ball chain, covered by the rubber boot had come apart. Reconnecting it gave my left foot much appreciated rest.

Yesterday I decided to fix my inoperative cruize; upon taking the vac gauge, DMM and FSM down to the car I opened the hood to disconnect the cable before beginning troubleshooting only to find that the clip holding the cruize cable to the TB had fallen off...
Start by checking the obvious mechanical links, then go to vacuum and the brake switch. There is detailed cruize troubleshooting in the FSM electrical section.
