Default Winbin programing!

I'm trying to make my winbin to work but I just can't get it.
I have downloaded Winbin, .bin files, and .ecu files but every time when i try to edit file message "ECU file error" pops up.
I have downloaded .ecu files from DIY-EFI site.

Any ideas?

I don't use winbin myself, but I'll take a wild guess at the problem:

For winbin, the .ecu file is a template for a specific GM computer. For example, for a '90 L-98 you need the .ecu for a 727 computer.

With that .ecu file in place, you should then be able to open a .bin file that matches that computer - like the .bin file from a '90 L-98.

The ecu and bin files have to be for the same type of car for winbin to work.

hope this helps

WinBin is far from foolproof, but it is nice because it is free. When I tried it out a while ago, I remember having to have all my ECU and BIN files in the same directory. It was weird because I could open up one file under a certain ECU and it looked totally different under a different ECU even though they were both for the same one. Like the Doc said, make sure the ECU is correct. -Matt-

O.K.
I found .ecu file and now the software works but I'm getting some stupid values everywhere. I guess that is because .cu and .bin files are not for same car.

Does anyone have .ecu and .bin file for my ecm?
My ecm # 16198260 but I think it's the same thing as # 1227727 or
# 1227730!
On the EPROM - ANHT 4298.
If you have PLEASE mail it to me.

THANKS! :)

This is just a WAG, but I believe the .ecu files for the Corvette and F-body *have* to be different...Even for the same computer...Because the Corvette uses inputs that the F-body doesn't (4+3 tranny inputs, fr'instance)...And GM has no uniform standard for placement of values in their Binary files...Even for year to year in the *same* body style...

I tried WinBin for my '86 165 ECM; but no one had the correct 32 .ecu file for it...
