Well dang, notice with all of the hot weather, my headliner on the 93 Ruby Red fell! I guess the glue only does the balancing act against gravity for so long !
What is the best way to fix? Can I just use some spray adhesive and reglue the old one? What is the best way to go about this? The old liner fabric looks to be in good shape.
Exactly. get some 3M spray adhesive, take a razor blade to one or two sides of the fabric, and respray it. Clean out the gunk from inside first so it'll adhere. Then stretch the fabric back where it was and tuck it down into the crack. Presto. Good as new.
When I did mine I went ahead and replaced the fabric too. It was like $5 from a local fabric store for some stretchy black stuff.
Ecklers or Midamerica has a kit that comes with the fabric but not adhesive. Get the 3M spray adhesive (like the first poster said) from Auto Zone. Its not hard to do this repair. The fabric you get in the kit has the foam backing on it just like the factory headliner. I did this on my 92 last summer and if I can do it anybody can. Pull out the old headliner then carefully remove the fiberglass pad underneath using a spatula or putty knife. Mine was stuck really good. Clean the foam pad using a very fine grit sand paper to remove the old adheive and remove as much of the old adhesive as you can from the hard top. Then spray the pad with adhesive and wrap the headliner over the pad. Leave a couple of inches of headliner overlapping the pad. I used straight pins to pin the headliner edges to the back of the pad while the glue dried. Then glue the pad to the hardtop. tuck any loose spots under the pad with a putty knife and let dry. Your all set after that.
Well, I was going to keep the Ruby Red stock and put the old fabric back in case an NCRS judge ever looked up , but now I am kinda liking the Jolly Rodger thing. Some suceeding generation can put the original fabric back !!!
The headliner material has a foam backing. I found replacement material at a local fabric store; it is specifically for auto headliners with the foam backing. Had to order it, took a week to get it. Used the 3M spray glue to install it after cleaning off the old headliner.

If I had a 40thAE, I'd get ruby colored felt, and the 40th logo from a T-shirt stitched to the felt.
