Default Need AC compressor for '89 L98

The compressor is making strange sounds while running with AC on. What year range fits the '89?
Thanks

The A/C comressor was "upgraded" by The General in '88 (that's why the "frisbee" was tacked onto the WP pulley) and carried (I believe) unchanged through '91.

Indeed, Corvette America lists (old catalog):
34356 - '88-91 Compressor - Nippendoso - less clutch....$575

A compressor low on oil will make a terrible rattling noise.
I get about 2oz put in my 87 R4 AC about every other summer and it quiets it right down.

Can oil be put in without losing the charge?
If so...how?

The Discounters use to sell an ounce or two in a tube that you simply screw onto the the low side fitting (system off) - try Poop Boys. Make sure you buy mineral oil (if R12 is the charge) as Pag is only compatible with R134. You then use an open end wrench to turn a bolt that presses the oil out of the tube and into the system. I'd be more inclined to look for an oil leak first - look on the hood above the compressor; unless of course it's in the Evaporator (which is fairly common and makes a mess of the inlet filter), at which point, an electronic leak test is about the only way you'll find it. Most shops don't charge much - if anything - for such a test. Takes all of 5 minutes and they want the big bucks to swap out the Evaporator.
