Default 91 upgrades

I read in the 101 Corvette Projects book that the MAF system does not respond well to upgrades. It this true. I was going to install a cam, runners, intake, headers and a custom chip.

Is this true?

I've always heard differnet. The MAF system is more adaptable to mods, but the MAP system can be tuned better, though difficult.

Btw, I have a cam, heads, intake, stroker engine, headers, etc. with a chip tune and the car runs great! (not right now though. )

'91 does not use mass air flow logic, it is speed-density.

91 is speed density so the MAF will NOT respond at all to whatever happens.

With the custom chip, it SHOULD take care of it all depending on who does it.

MAF responds well. MAP does not respond as well. You have a SD/MAP car in 91.

The custom chip will take care of these issues, dont worry about it further.

Just know that you shouldnt drive it much until that chip is in it.

What he said. You definatly will need a custom chip for a more aggressive cam.

You can either do the research in the Scan/Tune sections, and buy the necessary software and hardware, or mail order a chip.

Another reason why we generally recommend the same combos is that they not only make good power and work for street cars, but also are easily tuned since tuners have made chips for the same setup before.

I would recommend PCMs for less. I have a chip from them in my car. They are reasonably priced and I have no problems. I changed the T-stat to a 160, added 30lb injectors, removed the mufflers and I have a K&N cone type filter on the throttle body and it runs great!! ....of course thats after its starts but thats another unrelated issue....
