Gears aren't going to give you more low end power. They're going to shorten the powerband, making the low-end disappear and replace it with the mid-range RPM. Then, if you have auto, you also need a good converter to make the most out of it. If you just want a little more fun, I don't suggest going higher than 3.45s because your gas mileage will drop horribly. That, and L98s don't like to rev higher than 5k.
If you want more power, swap in a better exhaust system. Throwing on a dual exhaust with LT headers and muffler elims will give you ~40hp to play with.
3.07 is an optimal ratio for L98 automatics, but since going to that from 2.73 is hardly worth the expense, I recommend changing your torque converter to one with a stall around 2200-2400RPM.
Would give you the feeling of more power at stop lights without cost of mileage.
I went from 2.73 to 3.07s. I really like the new gears.
With the 2.73 and OD I could cruise at 85 MPH all day and still get good mileage. I would shift into OD at about 65 MPH.
But, around town it felt sluggish. The 3.07s woke it up. Then I had a 2400 Vigilante installed. The difference is like night and day and I still get decent mileage.

I do agree with everyone here. There is not much of a difference between the two. I was thinking of a gear ratio something in the mid three's but you guys all think differently. Mid three gears not right for a L98?

No, not for a stock or anywhere-near-stock L98. The powerband is too short for them.
