I am going to be installing the rear window drain kit on my '90 coupe tomorrow, and was wondering if any one who has done it has any pointers or tips to help make it a easy job.
I tried using the search feature, but it does not seem to be working correctly.
This is realy a pretty easy job. If you remove the fender skirts inside the wheel house you can see exactly where you will be drilling and where to route the drain hose. You will be drilling through two layers of SMC so when you drill through the first there will be a bit of an air space and then the other layer. Make sure you use some sort of initial punch to dimple where you want to drill. Use a small dia. bit first to drill the pilot hole and then a larger bit for the final size. The dope they give you on the kit to seal the grommet works ok. I painted it to match the car and had no problems. Probably needs to be painted again now that its been on there for four years.
I didn't like how the kit layed in the channel - see my pics. So, I built my own. See the post - just another thought. I was most concerned about water getting into the glass so wanted a better more permanent seal than the putty or RTV sealer would provide.

Thanks, Randy
Be careful when drilling that the chuck on the drill doesn't scrape against the body.............ask me how I know.....
