Went to movies last night and got into car and engine turns over but never fires up. We tried about 4 times and nothing. We let it set over night and next morning nothing. I tried to use starter fluid, it did not start but it sounded like it wanted to. I know 160,000 miles is a lot but its still a great car. How can I check the fuel press without the gage they say you need? Thanks Other then this happening the car has been good.. Any help would be appreciated.
well just for a quick easy check stick a key or small screwdriver into the schrader valve on the fuel rail and turn the key on. If fuel comes out, the pump is working(at least to some extent) Just don't stare directly at it, you may get sprayed.
Join the club...see my posts on my Vette not starting.
My next step is I borrowed a bullet propane heater to heat my garage with in case the fuel line froze. Then I will try to start it after heating the garage with it.
If the fuel rail is primed, clip a timing light onto #1, crank the engine while holding the trigger to see if you get flashes. If no spark, service the dist.
If spark, run a compression check to see if the timing chain has jumped a tooth or so.
If you suspect fuel line freeze up, pour in some dry gas and let it stand for a while. It may disolve the ice.
Thanks every one, but it is just to cold (car was in a mall parking lot) I had a rollback take it to local garage to be looked at. My house was to far read $ for rollback. Thanks Again Bob :yesnod:
sounds like a bad module in the dist. Sometimes you will get a spark even with a bad module but it is too weak to light the mixture. Beware of the cheap ones from advance auto etc. Just buy a GM and it will last awhile.
Hey neighbor. If you need any help let me know and maybe we could get together. If you have fuel pressure, check for spark, then the timing. You may want to check for codes also and see if that helps. All you need is a paperclip to check and see of there are any codes. BTW, which shop did you take it to? Shoot me an e-mail if you need to.
