My 88 is at the stock height. Since I changed my gears and had a TC installed; I have a bit of a traction problem.
I'm thinking of lowering the rear about 2 inches. I have never lowered anything. Will it help traction? What needs to be done? Will it have any effect on clearance? I have 11" on the rear with 315 tires.
No it wont, it actually decreases it as it produces more negative camber. When a C4 accelerates, the back goes down and the tires tilt in at the top, increasing negative camber, so not nearly as much rubber is flat on the ground. Now, if you get an alignment after lowering it, and have them align it with 0 camber, or 1 degree positive camber, when you accelerate the tire will go towards negative camber tilting in at the top and be flatter than factory alignment settings.
The geometry of the C4's suspension is not the best for traction at a drag strip. Its a compromise for drag racing/road racing and comfort.
Allot of the very quick C4's are not lowered, just realigned for maximum traction all the way up to 2 degrees positive camber, stiff shocks and springs to assist in getting maximum traction.
