Default What is this???

Yesterday while I was pushing my car back to the house, I noticed something on the ground where my rear end finally let go. Its a rubber ring of some sort, I think it came from my car, but what is it? Where could it have come from?

Looks like the gasket for the blinker fluid reservoir. Good thing you found it, those things are expensive and RARE.

It may not be from your car but if I had to guess it looks like it could be from some type of clamp, though I don't know if they would use rubber like that on your exhaust.

Man, glad I found that!

I think it did come from mine. Not many cars around here, and it was warm and wet with a lil' oil when I found it; came from the same spot the rear went bang (I only got half a block from home! ). Maybe some type of seal from the rear end; I wonder if I put a hole through the diff. housing somehow...

Hopefully not, but I'll admit I've never rebuilt the D44 in mine (knock on wood) but it very well could be. The fact that it was covered with a little oil and warm certainly narrows down your potential sources.

It really got me thinkin', of course, mine is a 36, soon to be a d44 though.

I found a drain plug on my housing, so I'm going to drain the fluid and see how much metal is in there.

Yeah, I know. Neither were the 3.73s or the driveshaft safety loop...Or anything else on the car.

I wish I knew the complete story behind it!

I didn't see a thread regardng you being stranded a block from your house. What happened?

I've exploded my share of rear ends, but none were on a corvette, and almost every time an axle came out.

My custom rims came with a piece like that to make absolutely sure there was no tolerance between the rim and hub.

Hard to tell whats in your hand as the part is too close to the lens and not using macros mode.

GL on ID'ing the part.

Sent ya' a pm Joe.

I'm going to get the wheels off the ground tomorrow, maybe I can find where it came from then. Just looks like a giant rubber band that broke.
