Default Crank Position Sensor

Am putting a LT4 into a 1992 C4. What do I do with the Crank Position
sensor on the timing gear cover. Do I need it.

Just either leave it disconnected (cheapest), make, or just plug the hole or get yourself a 95 timing chain cover, which doesn't have that sensor on it but will work with the late model Opti-spark. You'll still have to get a harness to adapt from the 95-96 to the 92 but either way Goodluck.

Noland

Oh, yeah...............No, you don't need it!

HickoryDickoryDoc,

Dang!

You are just up the hill from me! I'm off Hunts lane and Harwick!

I agree you can leave it out or just install it with no connection, it was for emissions 1996 .

Regards,

MO

You could use silicone in the hole, I just chose to keep the sensor in place and even wired it up with the connector. Just as long as your not loosing any oil from the plug hole then you should be good. My method was to keep all the wires conneced and since I went with a double roller for my timing chain, I ditched the reluctor ring that goes on the crank. When I go to tune here in the next week or so, I'll just have Ed tune the crank sensor out when he does my dyno tune for the car. Not a huge deal at all.

As far as the harness goes, that's just a harness that allows you to adapt a late model (95, 96) Opti to an earlier model car (92-94). It doesn't require you to wire all the way to the computer........If my converstation with Will serves me correctly, there's a small wire change that needs to be made at the old Opti connector, and then the harness allows you to adapt. Don't quote me on this, but it's something like going from 3 wires to 4 or vice versa. Either way, you can do a search and I'm sure there plenty of information about guys changing to the "Vented Opti's" around here. If you want, contact Will (rklessdriver) here on the forum, he just finished up his 92 with this mod as well. Goodluck and keep us posted!

Thanks, I've been away from my computer for a
couple days. The 96 LT4 that I bought has the short harness coming
out of the opti, is that the harness I need or ia there a connector
needed. It looks like it will plug into the 92 connector. Thanks for your help

Install it with no connections---it's there only to make a '96 vehicle OBD 2/emissions compliant --it checks for miss fire only
