Default Vortech kit for lt1 ????

I was talking to a guy who has a Vortech on his 92 LT1 and according to him it was $5000.00 and it came with everything, no tuning, no extra parts necessary and it was easy to install ?? I don't know much about superchargers but I find this almost too good to be true. He said no need to tap the oil pan, it comes with injectors and it took him a weekend to install. I am doubting this because if it were $5K and easy to install wouldn't there be more supercharged LT1s out there ?

That's what the base kit goes for.

The FMU works by bumping the fuel pressure, it does not retune the computer.

To make more power, you really need to upgrade the exhaust.

Change the cam and you can make even more power.

Keep in mind the basic kit isn't intercooled, so you can't run too much boost.

that guy obviously didn't install his own vortech kit. You have to tap the pan on all of their kits except for the new v3 series blower which are not made for the c4 and have only been out for a few months now. To my knowledge (and I've seen or talked to tons of vortech owners and owned over 5 myself) they all come as a complete kit. You can't get a "tuner kit" like on the mustangs. Maybe I'm wrong, but I do have a ton of experience with vortechs.

The guy was correct! Once upon a time it sold for that. It originally came with lucas injectors. They leaked and were replaced with 36lb Ford injectors. A water injection system was included. No, you did not tap the oil pan, you removed the digital oil temp. sending sensor from the pan and substituted the oil drain line.

Hypertech produced an excellent chip for the"93.

Any one need a CC305 cam on a 114 lsa? It produced an honest 596 rwhp,$100.00.

Inflation over 13 years does tend to push up prices.

i tend to think that corvette shoppers typically look for the newest vette' they can afford. Taking that into consideration, someone that "buys" into a C4, wasn't ready or interested in spending double or tripple the price of a c4 for a c5/c6 etc.... quite possibly the same mentality when it comes to the cost of the supercharger kits. sometimes the cost of the kit is nearly the same price as the car (or at least a relatively large chunk of it).

i personally have "dreamed" of owning a c4 forever, and even though a Z06 (c5) sounds very appealing. I wasn't necessarily ready to purchase it (since they sticker in the mid-$20k's and up). Needless to say, i didn't want a large car payment obligation either. So, i purchase a 93' (for $8K, smoking deal for me) and 2-months later purchased a "nearly complete" kit from quicketz (for about $2500). If you are patient and shop around, you will find a kit that someone is selling ... this can save you thousands (if you know what you are looking for, and what it takes to make a kit "complete"). At this point, i am VERY happy with my SUPERCHARGED C4, for under or around $10k all said and done.

also, if you hear from the c5/c6 owners, they think the LT-x cars are "old news". Even though there is a market for the Lt-x cars (i don't think it's nearly as large a market as the Ls-x guys). So, this too has slowed down (for the most part) the "development" for c4's.

One of the things that you have to watch for when purchasing a kit is the age of the kit. There were several items on my kit that when talking with the Vortech guys, they repeatedly said, "Wow, that IS an old kit!" Items like the FMU and the supercharger were key giveaways. My supercharger was an A-trim (and a REALLY noisy one at that). I replaced my supercharger with a new V-3 unit (T-trim) but haven't tuned in the top end yet. It drives around great and we just took a 2500 mile trip to Carlisle from FL. without a glitch. We've done a few things different like putting an LS1 Camaro (cable operated) throttle body in front of the supercharger and gutted the original LT throttle body. We're going to be doing a few more modifications and probably get rid of the throttle body on the intake altogether. It's an LT1 in an '85 Corvette. The V-3 fit right in place but the intake elbow setup is a little different. The A-trim had a smaller intake and the elbow fit directly over the fitting for the intake on the supercharger. The T-trim is larger and needed to have a silicone hose to fit over both the intake tube and the supercharger intake, since now they are both the same size. The only issue is that this moves the intake elbow forward about an inch and that COULD make it kind of tight between the supercharger and the radiator stack. My car isn't an original LT car, so I'm not sure exactly how this would affect an original car. I got 27 miles to the gallon on the drive and the supercharger is MUCH quieter, I don't know about power yet but I'm pretty sure it should be a fun ride when we get it tuned. So far, I really like the setup. IF I were shopping for a supercharger setup, I would seriously see if you could get a V-3, it fits in the same spot as the others and it is MUCH easier to install without that oil supply and drain tubing. It has a stretch of braided tubing on it already to allow you to place it where you can reach it for draining of the supercharger. First change is at 2500 miles (first week of running for me ) and subsequent changes are every 7500 miles. about $12 per each change of oil. I hope this helps.

dude all you gotta do is go read the description of the pro charger. It is not too good to be true and the reason it costs almost $6000 is because of how easy it is to install. Go read a book

Ummmm no. You don’t need to tap the pan it has a self lubricating. Don’t come on here talking like you know everything he could have very well installed it himself. Get off the forums if you don’t know anything

and who are you and what is your level of experience on these older kits? This is a thread over 13 years old and primarily talking about vortech kits of the time. Around the time, both vortech and pro charger went to self contained blowers. Do some research before you **** on people.
