Has any one on the Forum installed a set of TIPS Headers? It looks to me as these should be an easy installation as they are designed to fit my 85 and they also offer the "Y" pipe so it is a simple bolt on project (don't need to go to an exhaust shop). Any information will be appreciated.
Make sure your "y" pipe will fit into your cat. If you read TPIS's site, there is a note that the pipe is a bit bigger then stock, and the cat will need to be expanded.
I have the TPIS headers on my 85. The headers install pretty easy, a few issues with bolt alignment and spark plug clearance, but I have aftermarket heads so that may contribute to the minor fit issues. Dip stick removal can be a pain. The Y pipe fit was not great on my car so I took to a muffler shop to cut and re-weld the Y pipe so the exhaust would be centered under the car. The stock cat on an 85 has a 4 bolt flange so there will be no need to worry about the cat fitting over the Y pipe as stated by others, that issue applies to later model C4 with the slip fit cat. A few issues but nothing that can’t be over come.
