I found a code fifteen after a SES light and an erratic digital guage. I had a new digital sensor installed after it was damaged during a crank seal replacement and about an hour of driving later the SES light and temp gauge issues. Is it safe to assume I have a faulty sensor? Thanks for the help
The CTS powers the digital water temp gauge and is used by the PCM for many things.
A quick and dirty check is to compare the digital and analog gauges on a cold engine. They should both be close to ambient temperature. As the engine warms up, they should be fairly close.
Mike,
The sensor is not digital, its analog. Its output is made digital by the computer for you to read. If the sensor is new maybe its not plugged in all the way or the connector is dirty or sloppy.
Turn your key on (don't start the car) check the temp and then unplug the sensor. The reading should change a lot. Plug it back in and it should go back where it was.
The computer sets the code if the car does not stay above 180 or 185.
It looks at this reading continuously to keep AFR at proper levels.
