Default how to change bias spring

Sorry if this has been discussed a million times , but when I did a search I see lots of threads, but nothing in them since the upgrade.

I am thinking I should add a bias spring to my brakes but not sure the procedure. Any photo's of an install would be great [ photos help me understand things better usually].

I understand that it helps equalize the front and rear brakes for better stopping when you need to put them to the boards. Bleeding them? Just the mc, or all 4 corners? I understand there has been some debates about this too.

Any help, or pointing to links that work would be most aprreciated.

Thanks

You already have a proportioning valve on the front of the master cylinder. An aftermarket spring like the one from DRM gives a little more back braking effort.

The instructions come with the spring. It's not difficult.

Corvettefever.com instructions off of the MidAmerica Motorworks website.

http://www.mamotorworks.com/PressRel...brakes0806.pdf

You will need Adobe Acrobat to open the file up. Download the program here if you don't have it: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Hope that helps,

Jonathan

I didn't read the whole thing, but it looks like a pretty darned good article. I strongly advise getting a set of snap ring pliars. They're cheap, and they make the job go very well. Once the snap ring comes out, be careful the assembly doesn't spring out unexpectedly and get lost. Excellent mod, it's cheap, easy, and very rewarding the 1st time you hit the brakes hard.

And for the snap ring pliers, I picked up almost all of the Craftsman ones Sears sells for my tranny rebuild, so I can attest to their quality.

They aren't that expensive either and here is the one used in the article: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...0P?vName=Tools.

Those are $10 and are reversible so they can be used for external or internal retaining rings. They can also be used for other retaining rings, such as the ones in Craftsman ratchets so you can lube the internals if you want. (As an aside, I took apart a new one of the older designs and compared it to the new slim design ratchets and can attest to the quality of the new slim design - they have two o-rings and many more teeth than the traditional style. )

Oh, and that link is to a .pdf file which is pretty large, so even with my cable internet, it took a little bit to open.
