If you had a stock ’87, L98 drive train and $5,000 to throw away, and you wanted to make as much quality horsepower as possible, what would you do and why. Yeah, I know; it’s a lazy way to find out what mods work without digging through the archives.

That must be answered first.

Heads/cam/intake/tune is where I would go. Tpis miniram intake ($1200), Lt4 hot cam kit ($not sure, lol), afr 180 heads ($1800), dyno tune ($500)......forgot about the exhaust. How about $6000 dollars?

If I had $5K to throw away, I wouldn't be driving an '87

Yep, shamelessly lazy. Heads, cam, tune, 1.6 RR's and exhaust. $5000 isn't enough to do the intake too. You will need to budget at least $500 for incidentals.

Is the private retail price for your car plus the $5k enough to get you into an LT4 car?

I would run the Holley Stealth Ram the company on here is modifying. Cheaper than the mini and should be more fun for a street cruiser (tq).

Yes, but it would be the same dilemma, only to a lesser degree: not enough horsepower. Well, that’s unless I step up to a ZR1 or GS but then I would be hesitant to beat on it. I know that there are those that would ask why you would be…and as a response; if you have to ask that question then you are out of touch and would not understand the answer.

Cam, intake/MR, exhaust. You should have some $$s left over. Save for a good set of heads.
