Default 94 timing set question

I've done a search and seen where a lot of people have used the Cloyes double roller timing set. My question is what ends up driving the opti? The Cloyes set has the larger opening in the cam gear. Any help would be appreciated-Thanks

A quick answer,

The early style opti is driven off the splines in the actual timing chain gear and the newer style opti is driven off a longer camshaft dowel...

So if I exchange my opti for the later style it will work?

Not by just upgrading the opti itself,

I am in the process of rebuilding an engine for my 92 and upgrading myself. It is getting somewhat expensive, But I couldnt justify spending near $500.00 for an LT1 style timing chain that is not as strong.

I chose to run an older L98 style stronger Cloyes Double roller, but there are a few parts and changes that are needed to do this.

1. Newer style camshaft with longer dowel to drive the opti
(I was building my engine and wanted to upgrade anyway)

2. Electric water pump
(I consider an upgrade, + the old style chain wont/cant drive the LT1 style water pump)

3. Vented Opti/harness

4. 95-96 Style timing cover

I believe other folks have just combined/modified their existing older style optis with the newer type parts and have had success!!!
