Is there an in expensive engine scope or ? to pinpoint misfire or verify problems such as carbon tracking in opti.(92 LT1 c4) My thought is to verify operation of opti/dist.cap by observing firing order or multiple cylinders firing at same time.(ie carbon tracking) Is there any way to rule out opti before replacing to rule it out. Thanks.

 

Timing lights clipped onto the wires in question might show multiple fires and misfires.

 

I found bad coils and misfires with this method.

Also,some parts stores,sell a tool the size of a Pen,and it will glow brightly or glow dim if theres a misfire or poor spark from a wire.It works similar to a timing light,but fits in your pocket.You simply touch the plug wire with the tool and it will glow bright or dim depending on the problem,if there is one.

Ask your local parts store for it,I forget the name though.

 

I bought a cheap one of these and it seems to work on some wires, but not others. It works good on my friends Chevy truck with very thin wires (maybe non-insulated), but doesn't work on the Taylor Spiro Pro wires on my 'vette. The insulation might be preventing it from picking up the signal. A better quality pen might work.
