Was driving the Vette the other night and switched the control from off to vent. When I did this the back lighting for the climate control went out. The LED that tells you which funtion you're using works but everything else except for the LCD display is dark. Any ideas? I've never had any problems with the dash or the dash lighting before. Thanks in advance for any help.
Re: need help with electronic climate control (vader86)
You are probably going to have to replace it (the control head). My buttons would sometimes not work and got worse. The temp. control quit completely. It's not hard to replace the head. Chevrolet parts has an exchange on them. I can't remember the price though.
Re: need help with electronic climate control (FIBERGLASMD)
everything works on mine except the backlighting on the buttons. Everything functions properly except the lights. Surely I'm not the only one this has happened to. :seeya
Re: need help with electronic climate control (vetsvette)
Very good question. Mine has been the same way. I took the head unit out and took it apart. There are 4 micro bulbs that clip into the circuit board. All 4 bulbs are good. I cleaned the circuit board put it back together and it's still dark. I checked all the fuses and they are ok. Does anyone have a wiring diagram they can look at and tell us where the head unit gets the power for the bulbs. What color wire is the one that powers the lighting?
Also I understand there is a series of buttons to push on the head unit to get error codes. Does anyone have the instructions on what to do and what the codes are. As I remember it's pushing the up and down fan buttons at the same time, but I don't know anything further from that.
Re: need help with electronic climate control (OcalaGuy)
I'm also having the same exact problem with my 90 Corvette. The readout on the temp. guage works but all of the buttons are dark. The same is true for the radio. I pulled out the climate control unit and checked the bulbs and used an eraser on the contacts but still no luck.
If anyone knows what else to try; I'd appreciate it. I'm at a loss as to where to go from here.
P.S. Thanks for all the great info provided in this forum!
Re: need help with electronic climate control (OcalaGuy)
To enter the diagnostic mode, push and hold the fan up arrow and the fan down arrow at the same time for approximately 5 seconds The LCD will show 00 push auto fan and the LCD will show any fault codes stored in the programmer. This is out of my 91 service man hope this helps. :D
Re: need help with electronic climate control (OcalaGuy)
I give up. I just spent the last hour looking through my service manual. I found the fault codes but they won't help with my problem. Can't find a simple wiring diagram for the HVAC backlight system. Found info on the LCD and LED's but nothing on the bulb ckt. Is there a seperate book with wiring schematics?
Re: need help with electronic climate control (vetsvette)
