My 89 started throwing a 33, 34, and 36 so last night I did the quickest and easiest fix first by replacing both the relays. I didn't have time to reset the ECM and sure enough, the SES lit up again this morning as I expected it to.
So my question, simply out of curiosity, is just how smart is the computer? I know in some circumatances when the min/max tolerance of a parameter has been exceeded, it'll throw the light until the condition gets back into 'normal' limits and reset itself.
In this particular instance though, assuming the relays were the only problem, will the SES always light stay lit until manually reset/cleared, or will the system eventually sense the correction and reset/clear itself?
The codes are stored and will display until the system is is manually reset. It will not go away by itself, or after parts are changed, adjusted or modified.

Many thanks! I kinda suspected that was the case. Time to yank the negative...and then reset my clock...my radio presets...my A/C...sigh.
