Due to not having the rear brace on the alt., after having hooker headers that do not fit the brace, my alt casing broke. Im JB welding it until I can get a new alt.
How long do you guys think until that stuff gives? Dont worry im not leaving it like this!
I ordered the stock brace and im going to modify it to go to the first header bolt. I saw, someone else did this and they said it was really easy and it worked. I took a look and it is very doable.
I took the stock brace and cut it in two. In my junk pile I found a steel rod that fit inside the hollow brace. Place the rod inside of the brace and bolt it up. Tack weld it. Remove the brace and finish weld it. Didn't look bad and worked.
So it felt pretty solid after the jb weld dried, but when I went to install the alternator it broke back off extremely easy. Well I dont trust this stuff. I jus have to wait for my remaned alt.
You don't need a new alt unless you want to waste money. Go to an alt and starter rebuild shop and they will sell you just the front half for like $10. It's a common CS style peice used in many cars. Mine broke the same way. Just have remove the pulley nut with an impact gun and transfer your front bearing over to the new piece. They can do that there. It's an easy swap and JB weld will never work on this.

After I get done with tommorows shift Ill take a spin by a shop I do this. This came to mind earlier but I forgot about it. Thanks for the advice
I got the new part for the altenator. Cost about 18 bucks and the bearing was a different size so that was another 11 dollars. Better than buying a new alt though! Thanks for the advice!
