Default got some toys coming!

Well guys... the build has begun again, I dropped the cylinder heads off at the machinist yesterday for a valve job and to have the surfaces decked... they just got the level 5 porting treatment from me .

have a Garrett GT3582R turbo with .82 ar hot side on the way compliments of BTF and a Tial SS v-band housing to see if it assists in fitment. I have the rest of everything here including all the stainless steel and flanges for building this bad boy, and yesterday I cut the rear section off the new air gap LT4 intake and welded up the EGR ports and made room for the Distributor and cut the ho9le for it. HEads should be back from machinist by monday evening from what they told me!

I am very excited to have rolled the mitsubishi out and sold it and rolled the collectors edition back in.. twins is the game plan for this build so we shall see how it goes!!

wish me luck!

Chris

Awesome! Can't wait to see the results. I'm stuck in limbo over here trying to get a house built.

Chris,
What happened to the TT ZR1? I thought you had sold the old turbo system to be able to concentrate on buying a ZR1 and turbocharging that combo. If I recall correctly, you had gotten a really good deal on a high mileage ZR1 that was in good shape.

Is the CE an original LT4? For some reason, I thought it was auto. Good luck on the TT LT4. We need new projects on this board.

BTF is 100% correct, both cars will be getting done at the same time, they are both going to be using the same turbocharger since engine size is the same so I decided to do them in stages together and make precise lists of what is needed to do them as I encounter each hurdle ie plumbing hot side, cold side, oiling, scavenging, intercooling and see what of each can be somewhat universal to save time and money and what will be completely unique to each platform... rest assured all I have is a little chunk of money in the bank to fund the projects and LOT OF TIME since my home building days have come to a complete hault with the current market.

I am 100% devoted with no other responsibilities to both projects and I am ordering a 4 axis CNC machine to make the other sections of parts that will be required to start my fabrication business!

So for any out there that will be needing custom stuff.......... you will know who to PM!

Or I will be moving to NY or convincing BTF to move to NC to take advantage of the weather and he and I will be doing something together.. whatcha think BTF?

Chris,
That sounds like a plan. I look forward to seeing update pics on both projects. Were you in the home building business? Did you have your own company building houses? That would be an awesome job, if that is what you were doing.

BTF,
Where are you at with completing the turbo project. It seems like it has been some time since you have had a driving turbo vette. Hopefully soon...

Best of luck to both of you.

Aaron,

I worked with a General Contractor side by side doing primarily ultra Green and efficient homes. and I am still doing that but with this market right now.. I am forced to find something else to bring income in so I figured why not go ahead with the time I have and do what I always wanted to do. so.. here goes!

I feel 5 years younger I will say that, my energy has returned 10 fold or maybe that's because I sleep in an extra hour in the mornings now and am up at 7am instead of 6..lol

Good deal man! Can't wait to see some progress pics!

Don't you need 4 turbos from BTF? Twins on the CE and twins on the ZR1 add up to 4, not one man!

Tial housings are soooo sexy. I got another one today for GT4202 going on a dart blocked honda. The turbine housing weight 9lbs. less than half the cast iron garrett.

Looks like you'll be coming up here dude. My wife just enrolled for clinical Psych @ Saint john fisher. Wont be moving for at least another 3 years. for her masters, then PHD From who knows where. could be a bit.
People are still building houses left and right up here in NY. Not sure where they are getting the dought but hey..

New home + building new shop to accomidate my dyno, the CNC, and all other manufcaturing equiment = no corvette fun for Ricky

But I'll get there. Down to 2 cars to finish and the soltice turbo kits are starting to sell. That'll hopefully free up a little time and money for Bigred.

I didn't realize that you are making solstice turbo kits, did someone break the CPU to do the programming finally? Hopefully you'll be able to get the kit to fit on the new HRR SS and Cobalt SS.

Actually I have a compressor wheel upgrade for all LNF's that provides 6 more lbs/min flow and looks stock..
I have fully developed GT3076R &Gt35R kits for the Kappa's 'cause I dig RWD. But it's only time before somone dumps one in my hands to fit my GT's to. I'd REALLy like to put the AWD trans and rear out of the equinox into the HHRSS. that would be the "shiznittlebang snip snap snappy" to quote dave chappelle.

And yes, HPT has the PCm's fully open for 07,08 kappa's 08 HHRSS and cobalt SS's.
I turn 7600rpm @ 23psi and flow about 44lbs min max.

I also Have a agreement worked out with Lyndon Wester to provide on the shelf tunes for all packages.

well, I just got the heads back from the machine shop yesterday that I have been waiting on for a surface cut and valve job, I got them earlier in the week but I wanted to be sure that the valvespring install heights were as I asked for and good thing I did because they were off so had to take them back to have a couple thousanths removed by changing from cups to center locators in a thinner version which corrected the issue. Sooo got everything re-bolted together last night. I will be putting some paint on the motor this morning then once it dries I am dropping it back in the car this afternoon and putting the tranny in and connecting the harness etc etc..

so I hope to be fabbing on the project by tomorrow morning and all next week!

shouldn't take too long. once I have made sure I can fit the 35R's in there I will get the other turbo on the way and it should bne a bolt up and connect the oil lines at that point and get her on the road. since this is the second go around, I already have everything else finished like intercooler and such so it should be rolling very shortly!

The ZR1 is now going together just after the LT4, I need to get this car running due to a move happening at the end of this month into a bigger house with a bigger garage.. I am excited about the new work area but dreading the move itself..lol soo my goal is to have this vette running in the next 2.5 weeks! with the time I have to put into it I assume it should be very easy whether I can do the twins on the LT4 or whether I go back to the old single setup with the T76MPS turbo.

Chris

Will the turbos be on top or below the block?

Well, the plan is to hang them low and use a scavenge pump for oil return. I found a VERY high end pump that should support it and has a dry continuous run time of 10,000 Hours and is 100% compatible with oil, methanol and other highly caustic solutions. Porsche uses this same pump for their scavenge return as OEM so I am guessing it should be pretty well manufactured.
