How many years or miles are stock shocks good for typically?

BTW, I have a '96 CE.

What suspension do you have? What type of driving do you do?

I repaced mine last year at ~55k miles, also a '96. The ride was still generally good, but I saw that one shock had leaked more oil than the others and was annoyed that my Altima handled a pair of bumps/rises/heaves on the local freeway with less float than the Corvette. There may have been some useful life left on the old shocks, but the difference is notable (although I did go from base shocks to Z51 replacements) and I am happy I did the swap.

Typical? Beats me, but I doubt you would feel like new shocks are money wasted if the car is giving you some reason to wonder about it.

what shocks are a good replacement? I have seen everything from autozone to very expensive. I want something a little better than stock. OR is a air bag system better?

There might be a little float, but I'm coming from a C6 Z51 that was lowered about an inch. So, it's really hard to say if the car floats any more than it should.

The Z51 shocks sound like a good change. I bought this LT4 CE used, how can I tell it had the Z51 package? How much did you pay for the Z51 shocks?

The Bilstiens run about $300 for all 4. Look at the RPO label under either the storage compartment or console lid for the Z51 code.

Thanks, I'll look for it. I may check out the Bilstiens as well, $300 isn't bad.
