I have an 89 with 76k. The car sometimes vibrated at over 55 mph. I had the tires balanced and an alignment done. The vibration has decreased significantly. However, now I notice a small vibration at 30 mph aand above. Could it be the U-joints, bearings, bushings, and/or ball joints? Any suggestions on where to look first and what easy steps to check the possible problems?
Had similar problems and after several wheel alignments, balancing etc at different shops found a shop with a Hunter GSP 9700 "wheel vibration system". This machine can find and correct things that conventional systems can't. Is able to check and correct vibrations caused by balance (static & dynamic), wheel out of round, tire out of round, etc. The shop I used charged me a cost comparable to wheel balancing at the other places.
I first heard about the system watching PBS TV's Auto Week show.
