87 idle problems

87 idle problems
I have a problem with the idle. Its around 20 degrees here and when we start the car it doesnt idle. Sometimes it just cranks for a long time and when I give it gas it will start but have to hold the pedal down or it will stall. This happens till the engine is warmed up.I was thinking it might be a bad iac but want
an opinion before I start replaceing parts. the car only has 21,800 miles on it.Also sometimes after using it during the day and its warmed up it will not start without giving it gas. I was thinking it could be the fuel pump relay ????Any help would be great thanks :cheers:

you shouldnt have to give it gas anyway. maybe a leaky injector is your problem, but it really would be a good idea to CLEAN the IAC valve, you wouldnt have to replace it.

I agree, clean the TB and IAC and it's bore. Then reset the IAC and TPS.
Also check that your cold start injector is comming on to give cold enrichment.

My car had similar symptoms. Until one day even holding the gas pedal down wouldn't get it to idle in park. :eek: That's when the relay behind the battery totally died. I think it was just intermittent before. ~Juliet
